Dean Blunt is a musician, singer-songwriter, record producer and conceptual artist.[2] Blunt is best known for both his solo work and his partnership-based creations with avant-garde groups Hype Williams (featuring himself and Inga Copeland) and more recently, Babyfather; he was also the co-founder of London rock band Graffiti Island.[1][3] He has been described as "a prolific, category-rejecting artist"[1] and "an art-pop provocateur."[4]
Blunt embarked his solo career in 2011, releasing a set of albums as well as several EPs and singles. His full-length studio albums, The Narcissist II (2012), The Redeemer (2013), and Black Metal (2014), received attention and praise from various music publications.[1][5][6]
Blunt has also hosted conceptual art exhibitions in the past, which often utilize found objects and off-putting audiovisual elements in an informal way. Two examples of these are 'Safe Space' and 'hot16': the former amongst other things displayed a vending machine full of KA brand soft drinks, framed Twilight/Blade crossover posters taken from DeviantArt and a neon cinema schedule set for two runnings of the 1992 film "Fly By Night". The latter was a minimalist exhibition displaying a cocktail bar and a framed stock photo accompanied by high pitched ringing.
In 2015, he sent a stand-in to accept his Philip Hall Radar Award at the NME awards.[7] In 2016, he listed a toy Mini Cooper filled with marijuana on Ebay.[8]
