Delhi Durbar Medal

Delhi Durbar Medal were Commemorative Medals by British and instituted in 1903 for Delhi Durbar, 1903 and were lastly issued at Delhi Durbar, 1911, when Edward VII and George V were respectively crowned as Emperor of India.[1] The medals were issued in gold, silver and bronze.[2]

The obverse of the medal depicts the crowned head of the king facing right wearing an ermine robe of State, with the Collar of the Garter, and Badge of the Bath. Below the bust a branch of laurel with the legend, EDWARD VII DELHI DURBAR 1903. Reverse -Inset within a floral wreath of roses - A Persian inscription reading : By the Favour of the Lord of the Realm Edward, King, Emperor of India, 1901.[3][4][5]

Delhi Durbar Medal 1911 The obverse of the medal depicts the conjointed busts of King George V and Queen Mary within a floral wreath of roses; Reverse a legend in Persian, which translates as The Durbar of George V, Emperor of India, Master of the British Land.[6]

26,800 Delhi Durbar Silver Medals of 1911 were awarded, mostly to officers and men of the British regiments who took part. A small number of gold medals were to Indian princes and high ranking officials.[2]
