The Department of Building and Housing (Te Tari Kaupapa Whare in Māori), previously the Ministry of Housing, was a government agency within the New Zealand government. The Chief executive is Katrina Bach. The Department of Building and Housing is responsible to the Minister for Building and Construction (Hon. Maurice Williamson), and the Minister of Housing (Hon. Phil Heatley).[1]
In March 2012 Prime Minister John Key announced that the Department of Building and Housing would be integrated into a new Ministry comprising the Ministry of Economic Development, the Department of Labour, Ministry of Science and Innovation and the Department of Building and Housing.[2] The new Ministry began operating on 1 July 2012.[3]
