Dorothy Samali Hyuha is a Ugandan diplomat, educator and politician. She is the High Commissioner (Ambassador) of Uganda to Tanzania.[1] She has previously served as Minister Without Portfolio in the Cabinet of Uganda]].[2] From 2006 until 2011, Hyuha served as the Butaleja District Woman MP in the Ugandan Parliament. During the same time-frame, she concurrently served as the deputy secretary general of the National Resistance Movement political party.[3]

Background and education

She was born in Butaleja District[4] on 4 July 1962. Hyuha graduated in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science with a Diploma in Education from Makerere University. She then earned a Master of Education degree in 1995, also from Makerere University.

Career

Hyuha was first elected to the Uganda Parliament in 1996 as a representative of Tororo District, a post she held until 2006. In 2006, after Butaleja District was carved out of Tororo District, she won the parliamentary seat of women's representative for Butalehja District on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party ticket. She held that position until she lost the seat in 2011 to Cerinah Nebanda.[3] From 2009 until 2011 she served as Minister Without Portfolio.[2] In August 2012, Dorothy Hyuha was appointed Uganda's High Commissioner to Tanzania, where sh still serves, as of November 2016.[5]

Personal details

She is a member of the ruling National Resistance Movement political party. She was married to Daniel Hyuha, who passed away in December 2014, at age 68.[6] Together they owned three homes in Butalja District; one in Busabi sub-county, the second in Kachonga Village, Masamasa sub-county and the third in Wandegeya Village, Himutu sub-county.[3]
