Dr. Louis G. Lamothe Foundation

The Louis G. Lamothe Foundation (LGLF) aims to promote social dialogue. Launched on 18 December 2015, it hopes to expose citizens to information and the concept of social responsibility so that they can make a contribution to the dialogue, exchange of knowledge and the social transformation of their own country.[1] It aims to create a favourable environment for the development of social entrepreneurship. It is based in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.[2]

Louis G Lamothe Life and Career

Born on 11 August 1926, Louis G Lamothe (D.Litt in Spanish Language and Literature) was active in sport, higher education, the teaching of the Spanish language and the diffusion of the works of the great Latin American poets from 1850 to 1950.[3]

After obtaining a degree in Spanish literature in Chile in November 1952, he completed a doctorate in literature in Madrid in 1956. An experienced teacher, he taught modern languages at INAGHEI [Institut National d’Administration, de Gestion et des Hautes Études Internationales] from 1975 to 1983 and at the Faculty of Ethnology from 1980 to 1995. In this way, he sought to communicate his passion for the Hispanic culture and to promote Spanish in Haiti. At the same time he worked to promote Haitian culture in Bolivia and Suriname, remaining a member of Suriname’s consular corps until his death in 1999.[4]

He leaves a number of published works to provide students with an insight into the Latin American and Spanish cultures and literature.[6]
