Draper Richards Kaplan Foundation

The Draper Richards Kaplan Foundation, known as the DRK Foundation, is a private foundation focused on high impact philanthropy. Specifically, it makes philanthropic investments in nonprofit ventures that it believes to have high impact.[1] It is the philanthropic arm of Draper Richards, a venture capital firm.

History

The Draper Richards Kaplan Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Draper Richards, a venture capital firm run by William H. Draper, III and Robin Richards Donohoe. The DRK Foundation was founded as the Draper Richards Foundation in 1994 and began by making investments in the United States and India.[2][3] In 2010, Robert Steven Kaplan of the Harvard Business School joined the Foundation and it changed its name to the Draper Richards Kaplan Foundation.[2]

Portfolio

The Draper Richards Kaplan Foundation has funded a number of nonprofits since 2002.[4] Nonprofits funded include Watsi in 2013,[5][6] Kiva in 2007,[7] Living Goods in 2007,[8] and Room to Read in 2002.[9][4]

Reception

Charity evaluator GiveWell listed the DRK Foundation as one of the foundations whose grantees it would examine as potential candidates for charities to recommend.[10]
