EID, S.A. (Empresa de Investigação e Desenvolvimento de Electrónica, S.A.) is a Portuguese high tech research and development company, established in 1983. The company is specialized in the fields of electronics, communications and command and control, mainly for Defense use.
Its headquarters and production facilities are located at Lazarim (Charneca de Caparica), in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area.
EID is an entirely private owned company. Until recently, its main shareholder was the Portuguese State defence industry holding EMPORDEF. In June 2016, EMPORDEF sold its entire participation to Cohort plc (an UK-based independent technology holding).
EID is renowned by some of its advanced military communications systems, including its ICCS (Integrated Communications Control System) that is the responsible for the integration and management of the communications of a number of warships of the NATO and of other countries navies. EID's Customers include a number of armed forces in Europe, Africa, South America, Middle East and Asia Pacific. [1]
