East Bay High School is a public high school in Gibsonton, Florida. It was chartered in 1957 on Big Bend Road in Gibsonton. The school's current facility was established in 1971 on a new campus adjacent to the east of the old one. Its former campus is now the campus of Eisenhower Middle School.
General information
East Bay High School is located in Gibsonton. It generally attracts students from Apollo Beach, Gibsonton, and Riverview, however it once hosted students from as far south as Ruskin and Sun City to as far north as the Clair-mel and Progress Village subdivisions.
The school has frequently surpassed its 1,700 student capacity . In the 2005-2006 school year, the school held around 2,300 students. Since the opening of two new high schools, Spoto High School and Earl J. Lennard High School, in 2006, the school's population has held steady at around 2,000 students.
The school received a grade of "A" from Florida Department of Education for the first time in its history in 2009-2010 under the leadership of principal Sharon Morris. It received a grade of "B" for the 2010-2011 school year, also the first time in the school's history.
Former school secretary and Lennard High School Assistant Principal Maria Gsell became principal in January 2012, replacing twenty year veteran Sharon Morris.[1]
School information
The school's mascot is the "Fighting Indians". The campus is adorned with many Indian-related Senior Class projects, most notably the full-sized wall paintings of an Indian warrior in the gymnasium.[2]
