The Embassy of Madagascar in Falkensee is the diplomatic representation of Madagascar in Germany. They also represent Madagascan interests in Austria, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Iceland. The embassy building is located in the border area of Berlin on the Seepromenade 92 on the banks of the Falkenhagener See in the town of Falkensee, Brandenburg.

History of diplomatic relations

Madagascar has diplomatic relations with the Federal Republic of Germany since 1961, shortly after the state had received its independence from France. Embassy of Madagascar is located in Falkensee since December 2001. On of the recent ambassador of Madagascar in Germany was Alphonse Ralison (20 March 2006 to 2009), than followed from Lea Raholinirina. Now is Florence Isabelle Rafaramalala in the position of ambassador (June 2016).[1]

Architecture

The building of the embassy and the residence of the Ambassador of Madagascar on the same ground was commissioned by the malegasy architect Henri Randrianarisoa and realized by the German firm Fundamenta GmbH. Randrianarisoa was oriented in the design mainly in the Rova of Antananarivo, the royal palace of Madagascar built in the 17th century in Antananarivo, and he added elements of the colonial period and modern design of Madagascar.

The embassy building has three floors and a nearly square base, the elements of the four Risalits stresses at the corners. The entire house is decorated in a rich red earth tone to demonstrate the brick-red soil of the country. The front is determined by the central entrance, over which the coat of arms of Madagascar as a large plaque is attached. The façade ends with a balustrade from small columns in the European Baroque style. Behind it rises a steep and shingled roof tent in a typical design for the Malagasy architecture.
