Plants grow up to 60 cm (24 in) in height and produce pink to red long tubular flowers between June and December in the species native range.[2]
The species was formally described in 1868 in George Bentham's Flora Australiensis based on plant material collected by Allan Cunningham in the Blue Mountains.[1]
