Epsilon Octantis (ε Oct) is a class M5III[3] (red giant) star in the constellation Octans. Its apparent magnitude is 5.09[2] and it is approximately 291 light years away based on parallax.[1]
It is a semiregular variable with a magnitude range of 4.58 to 5.3 and a (poorly defined) period around 55 days.[5]
