Eric Vanderburg is an American cyber security, storage networking and information technology professional and writer living in Cleveland, Ohio.[1][2]

Vanderburg is Director of Information Systems and Security at JurInnov[3][4] and an author and speaker on information security. He has been interviewed on TV[5] and radio[6] to discuss information security and he presents and conferences and seminars[7][8][9] and has participated in panels on information security.[10] Eric Vanderburg attended Kent State University earning both a bachelor of Science in Technology and a Masters in Business Administration.[11] Vanderburg continues to learn and has obtained over 25 IT and information security certifications.[12]

Life and career

Vanderburg founded Independent Systems Consulting,[13] an IT consulting firm, in 1997.[4] He ran Independent Systems Consulting for almost ten years until he joined JURINNOV in 2006 where he directs JURINNOV's client-facing divisions of cybersecurity, electronic discovery, computer forensics and litigation document review.[4] Since then, JURINNOV has been awarded the Top-Twenty Electronic Discovery Service Provider by the Socha-Gelbmann Survey,[14] Ringtail 2010 Partner Consultants of the Year,[15] and Inc. 5000 Fastest-Growing Private Companies as of 2010.[16] In 2009, he built a network operations center at JURINNOV's headquarters to monitor data center operations and to perform transaction monitoring of key business and client systems.[17]

Vanderburg has leveraged his expertise with those of other leading companies through various partnerships. He was involved with Hitachi Data Systems in testing their Essential NAS product[18] which he compared to the Netapp FAS3000 NAS[19][20] and he partnered with Lateral Data in utilizing their Viewpoint eDiscovery tool to perform large-scale litigation document review.[21] He worked with Venio in deploying and marketing their litigation review tool with early case assessment (ECA).[22]

Several of the cases Vanderburg has worked on have required expert testimony in court. Vanderburg has served as an expert witness in cases involving digital preservation,[23] electronic communication,[24] access control and confidential information disclosure,[25] database management systems,[26] and directory services.[27]

Academic contributions

Vanderburg taught courses in security, database management systems, and computer networking at Remington College's Cleveland-West campus as an instructor and chair of the Computer Networking Technology program. Following Remington College,[11] Vanderburg served as an adjunct instructor in the Computer Information Systems department at Lorain County Community College in Elyria, Ohio.[28][29] Vanderburg has been honored to deliver commencement speeches at the Vatterott College Cleveland campus 2010 commencement[30] and Remington College Cleveland-West campus's final graduation in 2013. He has also taught web-based courses for professional development such as the course on packet analysis he taught for eForensics Magazine.[31] Vanderburg has served on the advisory boards for Remington College, Vatterott College, Lincoln School of Technology and Cuyahoga Community College Workforce & Economic Development Division (WEDD).[32]

Vanderburg regularly publishes articles on information technology, security and training. He has published in CIO Magazine.,[33] eForensics Magazine,[34] Network World,[35] Computer World,[36] Networks Asia[37] Certification Magazine,[38][39] PC Security World,[40] CSO Magazine,[41] ARN,[42] TechWorld,[43] and McGladrey Technology News Brief[44] Vanderburg also maintains a blog called Security Spotlight.[45]

Vanderburg has written ebooks, journal articles and white papers on information security and information technology. Vanderburg expanded his own knowledge of information technology through writing as it compelled him to challenge some of the assumptions he had about how technology worked in order to explain it to others.[46]
