Erin Shirreff is a Canadian-born, New York-based artist who works primarily in photography, sculpture, and video.

Education

Shirreff received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Victoria in Victoria, British Columbia in 1998 in Visual Arts. In 2005, she received her Masters of Fine Arts from Yale University School of Art in New Haven, Connecticut in Sculpture.

Major Exhibitions

Shirreff has had solo exhibitions in galleries such as the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, Massachusetts (2015), Artpace in San Antonio, Texas (2013), White Cube in London, United Kingdom (2013), the Contemporary Art Gallery in Vancouver, British Columbia (2013), and the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (2010).[1] Shirreff has also contributed work to group shows in venues such as the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City (2015), the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art (MoCCA) in Toronto (2015), the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) in Los Angeles, California (2012), The Power Plant in Toronto (2011), the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City (2010), and MoMA PS1 in New York City (2010).[2] Shirreff's work has been included in group shows in European and Latin American cities as well, including Amsterdam, Antwerp, Berlin, Cologne, Copenhagen, Medellín, Mexico City, Munich, Paris, Reykjavik, Rio de Janeiro, Rome, Turin, Venice, and Vienna.[3]

Awards and Recognition

In 2011, Shirreff was the recipient of both the The Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Grant and the Canada Council for the Arts Project Grant.[4] She has also won the Aimia/AGO Photography Prize from the Art Gallery of Ontario.[5] In 2005, Shirreff received The Hayward Prize for Fine Arts from The Austrian-American Foundation.[6] She has also been an artist-in-residence at Artpace in San Antonio, Texas (2013), at the Chinati Foundation in Marfa, Texas (2011), at The Western Front Society in Vancouver, British Columbia (2010), at The MacDowell Colony in Peterborough, New Hampshire (2008), and the Klondike Institute of Art and Culture in Dawson City, Yukon (2005).[7][8]
