Esse Mbeyu Akida is a Kenyan footballer who plays for Spedag in the Kenyan Women's Premier League and the Kenya national team as a striker.

Club career

Early career

Akida started her football career at Moving the Goalposts[2] at the age of eight MTG is an NGO that promotes girls' football and empowers women to take up leadership role(women for women). She was the best player in the "uwezo wa kipekee "tournament U17 and was selected to attend a football clinic in Netherlands in 2007, she also participated in the All African games in Algiers as a young athlete through an MTG program.

Akida joined St John’s Kaloleni in 2008, she played in the school’s football team and won several accolades including two back to back Mvp awards in 2011 and 2012. She was selected to join the national youth talent academy after participating in the Sakata ball tournament in 2010.

Senior career

In the 2012 UNICEF/ MOYAS women league, Akida played for Matuu Fc, a center of the NYTA, she was runners up to the golden boot with 37 goals; she also won the 2012 Kenyan Women's Premier League with Matuu. The Kenya Methodist University then secured Akida's services on a football Scholarship; she played for the University team Kemu Queens in the lower tier and won the title in the 2014–2015 season.

In 2016, Spedag Fc signed Akida. she had scored 13 goals before the play offs.

International career

Akida made her debut for the Harambee Starlets against Ethiopia in 2012 in a match that Kenya lost 5–0, she has 23 caps and 13 goals.[3][4][5] Esse Scored in Kenya's first match against Ghana at The AWCON tournament in a match that Kenya lost 3–1.[6] Essse scred Kenya's First goal at AWCON against Ghana in a match that ended 3–1 in favour of Ghana[7]
