Fathom Events is an entertainment content provider that broadcasts entertainment events in movie theaters throughout the US[4] that include live, high-definition performances of the Metropolitan Opera,[5] the performing arts, major sporting events, music concerts and more.[6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13]
Background
Fathom Events is the leading distributor of exclusive cinematic experiences and presents audiences with a unique way to enjoy live concerts, world-class opera, Broadway shows, sporting events, and faith-based programming in the comfort of their local movie theater. Each Fathom event features exclusive content not found anywhere else, including Q&As with top Hollywood actors, bonus footage, behind-the-scenes access and cast and crew interviews. Nationwide events are made possible by the largest network of over 875 live-enabled movie theaters through Fathom’s Digital Broadcast Network (DBN). The company has emerged as the leader in the event cinema industry, earning placement as the 15th largest U.S. distributor in 2015, alongside all of the major motion picture studios.
John Rubey is Fathom Events' first CEO and was previously President of AEG-TV and Network LIVE,[14][15] where he produced many events for Fathom and others. Rubey founded and owned Spring Communications a leader in Pay-Per-View special events.
On January 7, 2016, Fathom Events announced three new additions to their executive team. Larry Gilman was appointed as the new Chief Financial Officer of Fathom Events. He was previously the Executive Vice President and CFO for the TV Guide Entertainment Group. In addition, Tom Lucas and Kyle Villella were promoted to Vice President of Studio Relations and Vice President of Distribution, respectively.[16]
In August 2016, The Denver Post featured a profile of Fathom Events and how the company offers high quality, affordable entertainment events broadcast to the silver screen every Monday-Thursday.[17] This past year Fathom Events introduced Ben Lyons as the 'Official Host of Fathom Events'; Marking a first for Fathom Events, Lyons will engage the audiences in person and provide a historical retrospective on the evolution of cinemas - appearing in Fathom’s original pre-show content. As the new brand ambassador, Lyons will host live Q & A’s, present monthly reports on Fathom Events and give people an insight of upcoming release.[18]
Events
With more than 115 unique events and 170 event nights to choose from in 2015, audiences are experiencing more diverse content than ever in their local theaters. Recent events include the tenth anniversary season of The Met: Live in HD, concert events with Roger Waters and Ed Sheeran, dance productions such as Lincoln Center’s San Francisco Ballet: Romeo & Juliet, faith-based events including The Drop Box and Four Blood Moons, and special sporting events like the USA v Mexico men’s soccer match.
In 2012, Turner Classic Movies (TCM) and Fathom Events began a partnership to return beloved classic films back on the silver screen. The strategic relationship evolved into the TCM Big Screen Classics series in 2015. Each year, a dozen fan favorites are presented to audiences across the country. From Breakfast at Tiffany’s to Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, each event offers audiences a unique experience.[19]
In 2009, Fathom paired with RiffTrax, a series of comedic audio commentaries from the creators of Mystery Science Theater 3000, to bring live shows to cinemas across the United States, heckling notorious films such as Plan 9 from Outer Space, Birdemic: Shock and Terror, Godzilla (1998), Manos: The Hands of Fate, Reefer Madness, The Room, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, Starship Troopers, and Time Chasers.
