Fauji (Devanagari: फौजी, Nastaliq: فوجی, translation: "Soldier") (1988) was a TV series following the training of an Indian Army commando regiment that aired on India's national channel DD National in 1988. It was produced by New Film Addicts pvt ltd. Colonel Raj Kapoor was a Director in this company. Fauji starring Shah Rukh Khan that went on to become a mega success. This was not his debut role as is popularly believed. His debut role in TV serials was in Dil Dariya where he went quite unnoticed. The character of Abhimanyu Rai was based on the exploits of Lt Col Sanjoy Bannerji of the Bombay Sappers, Indian Army.
