Ferenc Snétberger
Ferenc Snétberger (born 6 February 1957 in Salgótarján, Hungary) is a Hungarian Jazz-guitarist.
Biography
Snétberger belonging to a Romani family. At the age of thirteen, he attended a music school and studied classical guitar. From 1977 to 1981 he studied at Bela-Bartók-jazz Conservatory in Budapest. He was well known in Hungary with the Stendhal Trio, and he established the László Dés and Kornél Horváth in 1987. In 1988 Snétberger moved to Berlin.In addition to playing in Stendhal Trio,he also worked as a soloist and in Duo-cast: with Vibraphonist David Friedman, and since 1995, with trumpeter Markus Stockhausen. In addition to the duo, he has appeared in Joyosa-Kvartetten with Stockhausen, the Norwegian bassist Arild Andersen and Swiss drummer Samuel Rohrer. In 2005, he founded his Trio with Arild Andersen and the Italian drummer Paolo Vinaccia. He has also played with Didier Lockwood, James Moody, Charlie Byrd, Ernie Wilkins, Herb Ellis, Bobby McFerrin, Richard Bona, Michel Godard, Anders Jormin and Joey Baron.
In addition, Snétberger also composed a lot of music, including film music. In 1995 he composed the concert For My People for guitar and orchestra.
On the German Holocaust Remembrance Day, 27 January 2011 concluded Snétberger celebration in plenary by the German Bundestag, with a Sinto when Zoni Weisz first held eulogy.[1]
In 2002, Ferenc Snétberger became honorary citizen of his native town Salgótarjá,and two years later he received the Hungarian merit order. In 2005 he was in Budapest as Franz Liszt award was handed out, and in 2014 he was awarded the Kossuth - price. His son, Toni Snétberger is an actor.
In addition to his musical activities, he founded in Hungary, one international music school (Snétberger music talent center) for socially disadvantaged children and young people, mainly minority of sinti- and Romani, which opened in 2011 (www.snetbergercenter.org).
