Florian (name)

Florian is a masculine given name borrowed from the ancient Roman name Florianus. The name is derived from Florus,[1] from Latin flōrus "(originally) yellow, blond; (later) flowering" (related to flāvus "yellow, blond"; compare also Romanian flor "blond, with reddish-blond hair"), although by popular etymology it is often linked to flōs (genitive singular flōris) "flower". It is the name of the patron saint of Poland and Upper Austria.

Florian is a common name in Austria, Germany and Switzerland.
