Career
Designed by Pierre Salinoc from 1752 to 1755, Sphinx was extensively rebuilt in 1776 under the supervision of engineer Ollivier.
Sphinx was part of the French squadron at the Battle of Porto Praya, although she did not take part in the action. The next year, she fought at the Battle of Providien in April. Blockading British shipping, she captured HMS Resolution on 10 June 1782, and took part in the Battle of Negapatam. [1]
Sphinx became a hulk in Rochefort in 1793.[1]
