Garautha is a Tehsil and a Nagar Panchayat city in district of Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. It is a belief that Rishi Vishwamitra stayed here. The administrative head quarter of Garautha Tehsil is Garautha City. The Garautha City is divided into 10 wards for which elections are held every 5 years.
Geography
Garautha is located at 25°34′N 79°18′E / 25.57°N 79.3°E.[1] It has an average elevation of 153 metres (501 feet). The city of Garautha is situated on the banks of Lakheri River.
Demographics
The Garautha Tehsil as per Census 2011[2] has a population of 233,688 of which 124,934 are males and 108,754 are females.
The Garautha Nagar Panchayat has population of 10,807 of which 5,682 are males while 5,125 are females as per report released by Census India 2011. Literacy rate of Garautha Nagar Panchayat is 80.67% higher than state average of 67.68%.
Notable Personalities
Dr. Vijay Singh Niranjan[3] (born Dec 2, 1954), a reformer, social activist and an agriculturist, is a former officer from the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), 1990 batch, Madhya Pradesh Cadre. He is a scholar in Chemistry who joined Madhya Pradesh State Administrative Services in the year 1978. He has over 36 years experience of Administration and have held crucial post during his tenure in as Administrator.
He was appointed as first District Magistrate/Collector of newly formed District Janjgir Champa[4] now in Chhattisgarh. He has served as District Magistrate in many other Districts viz Seoni, Chhindwara. During his tenure in the Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Department as Commissioner/Secretary, Madhya Pradesh, he was instrumental in preparation of Panchayati Raj Act (Local Self Govt.) of Govt. of Madhya Pradesh.
He has served as Commissioner/Secretary for Horticulture Department, Social Justice Department, Secretary of Sports and Youth Welfare, Managing Director of Madhya Pradesh Agro Industry Development Corporation, Commissioner/Secretary for Department of Higher Education. During his tenure at Higher Education Department, for the first time the department for introduced to paper less work. As a leader he brought in many positive reforms within the department which benefited the Students. He introduced semester system for the first time in the history of Higher Education in Madhya Pradesh. He was instrumental in implementing Online Admission (e-Pravesh) System for the first time in Madhya Pradesh. This benefited thousands of students/scholars from rural areas to get admission to top colleges of Madhya Pradesh on merit basis.
He has won numerous awards for his work during his tenure. He retired in 2015 as Principal Secretary to Government of Madhya Pradesh.
