Gareth Morgan "Big G." Price (18 August 1917[1] – 19 July 1992) born in Llanelli, was a Welsh professional rugby league footballer of the 1940s and 1950s, and coach of the 1950s, playing at representative level for Wales, and at club level for Leeds, Halifax, and Doncaster (Captain), as a Centre, i.e. number 3 or 4, and coaching at club level for Doncaster,[2] he died aged 74 from pancreatic cancer at Leeds General Infirmary.
International honours
Gareth Price won 11 caps for Wales in 1945–1948 while at Leeds.[3]
Genealogical information
Gareth Price's marriage to Sheila née Brooksbank (birth registered during July→September 1925 in Leeds district – November 2010 (aged 85)) was registered during January–March 1948 in Leeds district,[4] They had a daughter Tracey Anne Price, and grandchildren Gareth William (Little G.) and Barbara Lyn (his 3rd grandchild David Christopher had died from cot death in circa 1987-88. Gareth Price lived in Headingley, and following his retirement from rugby league, he and his wife Sheila, opened up a Newsagent's shop on North Lane, Headingley, he retired from work a few years before his death, he died 6-weeks after returning from holiday in Torrevieja, Spain.
Gareth Price was cremated, and his ashes were scattered at Lawnswood Cemetery, Leeds along with his mother-in-law, father-in-law, his grandchild David Christopher, and also his good friend, and fellow rugby player T. L. Williams. His wife Sheila Price, died in November 2010, and her ashes are also scattered at Lawnswood Cemetery.
