Gediminas Ziemelis (born April 4, 1977) is a Lithuanian businessman, entrepreneur, philanthropist and business consultant, selected twice among the top 40 most talented young industry leaders by Aviation Week & Space Technology. He is currently the Chairman of the Board at Avia Solutions Group, ZIA Valda and Chairman of Supervisory Board at Agrowill Group.
Biography
In 1999, Gediminas Ziemelis graduated from Vilnius Gediminas Technical University with a Bachelor degree in business management. In 2004, after completing studies at Mykolas Romeris University, he received Master's degree in Law.
Gediminas Ziemelis is also a member of the YPO (Young Presidents’ Organization) – organization that connects successful young businessman, where the members must be below the age of 40, managing companies with annual revenues in excess of 45 million USD. Gediminas Ziemelis is also a guest lecturer at Vilnius University, Vilnius Gediminas Technical University as well as top-rated business conferences in Lithuania and worldwide.
Career
- 1999-2001 – Deputy Manager of the Vindication Sector in the Department of Problem Assets and Vindication of the Lithuanian Savings Bank (currently known as Swedbank)
- 2001-2005 – the CEO of Zvilgsnis is Arciau UAB (currently known as Creditinfo Group)
- 2002-2006 – the CEO of ZIA Valda
- 2007-2009 – Business Development Director at ZIA Valda
- 2012-2014 – Chairman of the Board at AviaAM Leasing
- Since 2009 – Chairman of the Board at ZIA Valda
- Since 2009 – Chairman of the Board and Business Development Director at Avia Solutions Group
- Since 2010 – Member of the Supervisory Board at Agrowill Group
Gediminas Ziemelis is engaged in aviation business, real estate management, duty-free retail, pharmacy, agriculture and land management, hospitality, aircraft finance, etc.
During the period of 2010-2013 Gediminas Ziemelis, as a Chairman of the Board at all companies, conducted IPO of three enterprises – Avia Solutions Group,[1] AviaAM Leasing[2] and Agrowill Group. Although the initial public offering of Avia Solutions Group's shares was planned in 2010, the offering was postponed due to unsatisfying share prices.[3] Avia Solutions Group finally went public a year later.[4] The company was elected one of the best debutants of the Warsaw Stock Exchange in 2011, while in 2013 it was awarded with Polish Business Award in category “Increase of share price of Lithuanian company on the Warsaw Stock Exchange“[5] IPO of AviaAM Leasing - an aircraft leasing, acquisition and sales company was conducted in 2013. However, according to some experts, the offering wasn't very successful, as the company managed to attract twice less money than planned.[6]
Following the request of Transparency International, non-governmental anti-corruption organization, Gediminas Ziemelis audited Lithuania’s legal base and its performance in order to investigate financial transparency of the Lithuanian politicians. In addition, Gediminas Ziemelis prepared the Lithuanian debt market study Skolų rinkos apžvalga 2001–2005 m. (Debt Market Review, 2001–2005).
During the period of 2014-2016, Gediminas Ziemelis led Avia Solutions Group in completing several major projects – construction and development of the 4th Moscow airport[7] – Zhukovsky International, opening of the aviation professional training base in Singapore together with its subsidiary BAA Training,[8] construction of the modern 8500 sq m aircraft maintenance hangar in Kaunas,[9] establishment of tour operator KIDY Tour[10] and UAV service provider Laserpas.[11]
In 2016, Gediminas Ziemelis was acknowledge by the European Business Awards and received national champion award in the entrepreneurship category for his visionary inspiration and innovative approach to business development.[12]
Avia Solutions Group currently has over 20 subsidiaries including these companies: Baltic Ground Services (BGS), Baltic Ground Services Sp.z.o.o (BGS PL), Locatory.com, BAA Training, AviationCV.com, KlasJet, Helisota, Ramport Aero, Laserpas, KIDY Tour, Jet Maintenance Solutions, Loop, FL Technics and its units : FL Technics Line, FL Technics Engineering, FL Technics Training, Storm Aviation.
Philanthropy
Gediminas Ziemelis has already donated over 600 000 EUR to various charitable projects and initiatives.
He is one of the main sponsors of the Extend your hand to kindness 2015 charity event as well as one of the major supporters of Rimantas Kaukenas charity group[13] that helps children and young people with special needs to successfully adapt to the community. Gediminas Ziemelis also was the general sponsor of the first Jerzy Giedroyc Dialogue and Cooperation Forum, during which he assigned financial support to the strengthening of Lithuanian-Polish relationship.
Gediminas Ziemelis also supports sports by sponsoring Lithuanian national basketball team, Lithuanian Basketball League,[14] Lithuanian boxing athletes, racing driver Kasparas Navickas, football club Ekranas and several basketball clubs in Lithuania. Also, he supported famous guitarist Aurelijus Globys as well as personally donated to the treatment of Vytautas Kernagis.
