Geoff Richards (professor)


Robert Geoffrey "Geoff" Richards is the Director of AO Research Institute Davos at the AO Foundation.[1] He is a Fellow of Biomaterial Science and Engineering (FBSE),[2] a Fellow of International Orthopaedic Research (FIOR) and co-Founder and Editor-in-Chief of the eCM True Open Access Journal.[3]

Career

Since 1991, Richards has been working for the AO Research Institute Davos (ARI) performing R&D of fracture fixation devices. His current position is as the Director of Research and Development, a position he has held since 2009.[4][5] The personal research on implant surfaces has led to major changes in the design and manufacture of internal fracture fixation products that have led to greatly improved clinical outcomes for patients world-wide. Currently he holds a Professorship at Cardiff University, Wales, Great Britain along with two chairs closer to the clinic at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Freiburg, Germany and recently (2016) at the First Affiliated Hospital, Sun-Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, China [6] He is a fellow of both Biomaterials Science and Engineering and International Orthopedic Research.[6] In 1999, he co-founded the eCM Journal.[7] In 2016 he received Doctor Honoris Causa from the Technical University of Varna, Bulgaria [1]

Education

Richards graduated from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth with a B.Sc., in 1990. He continued there with his studies, completing a Master of Science in 1991. He then completed his PhD, Doctor of Philosophy at the same university in 1997.[8]
