Ghaseetpur Sohalian

Ghaseetpur Sohalian is a village in Mirpur (District of Azad Kashmir) Pakistan.

Demography

According to the 1998 census, its population was 625.[1] Majority of the village lives abroad mostly in U.K (United Kingdom). Rajputs are the main caste of the village, which is about 95 percent. The main occupation of the residents is agriculture.

History

Ghaseetpur is an ancient village resided by Sohlan Rajputs in majority. The village gets its name from the Sohlan tribe, who form the majority of the population. Sohlan actually is a branch of Rajput caste. The village was in existence before the partition of the Indian subcontinent. The residents of the village say that the village came into existence almost 500 years ago. Before the partition, Muslims and non-Muslims used to live together, but soon after the partition all the non Muslims left the village and moved to India. It is basically one of the most ancient villages of Khari Shareef (Area).

The village is situated on the bank of the river Jehlum. The village was not much affected during floods in 1992.
