Giannis Alafouzos (Greek: Γιάννης Αλαφούζος) is a Greek businessman and member of the Alafouzos family from Santorini.
Biography
He is the son of businessman and publisher Aristeidis Alafouzos. He is married and has three children. He is the publisher of newspaper Kathimerini, the founder and chairman of Skai Group - based in Neo Faliro of Piraeus, including the namesake television station Skai TV and three radio stations: Skai 100.3, Melody 99.2 and Red 96.3.
Panathinaikos F.C.
In May 2012 he founded, together with players and fans of football team Panathinaikos F.C., the association Panathinaikos Alliance 2012 which took a majority stake in the football club. In September 2012 he was elected by the members of the Alliance president of Panathinaikos F.C. in order to progress with the reorganization and consolidation of the association.
Financial irregularities and freezing of property and bank accounts
On August 10, 2016, the Greek Prosecutor for Financial Crimes, Panagiotis Athanasiou, ordered the freezing of Alafouzos' property and bank accounts, after an investigation by the Greek Center for the Audit of High-Income Taxpayers (KEFOMEP) concluded that Alafouzos had engaged in tax evasion.[2][3]
