Giles Richard Cooper (born 6 October 1968) is a British entertainment producer, concert promoter and marketer.[1] He is the Managing Director of Soho Media Group,[2] a production and marketing company working with artists including Paul McCartney and Elton John.[3]

Cooper serves as the Chairman of the Royal Variety Charity under the patronage of HM Queen Elizabeth II,[4] and has been responsible for producing the charity's annual fundraising event, the Royal Variety Performance, since November 2010.[5][6]

Giles Cooper was made a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in 2006, and awarded Freedom of the City of London, in 2014.[7]

Early life and entrepreneurial activities

Giles Cooper was born in Amersham, Buckinghamshire, on 6 October 1968 and attended John Hampden Grammar School in High Wycombe, after which he spent a period at St Martins College in London studying fine art and photography. In 1987, Cooper began working for music magazines Melody Maker and New Musical Express,[5] and was later involved in the launch of entertainment magazines, Uncut, Vox and Loaded.[8] In 1992, he joined Sold Out Advertising, an advertising agency where he worked as a marketeer of pop groups and music festivals.[9]

In 1998, Giles Cooper founded arts and entertainment marketing agency Media Junction,[10] which was later rebranded as the Soho Media Group.[3] Some of its' notable projects include Sir Paul McCartney’s world tours,[11] Sir Elton John’s UK tours in 2009, 2010 and 2015,[12] Take That’s 2009 and 2011 UK tours,[13] and Harry Hill’s ITV1 show TV Burp.[14]

Entertainment production

Between 1998 and 2013, Cooper produced and promoted commercial theater and concert tours, from 2015 he was found active on fundraising shows for the Royal Variety Charity, such as Sunday Night at the London Palladium[15] with Des O'Connor and Jimmy Tarbuck.[16]

Royal Variety Charity and Royal Variety Performance

In December 2007, Cooper was a volunteer for the Entertainment Artistes’ Benevolent Fund (now known as the Royal Variety Charity).[17] He was elected as the Chairman of the charity through voting in November 2010.[18] In partnership with the charity's honorary Life-President, Laurie Mansfield, Cooper's role as Chairman is to organize the annual fundraising event, Royal Variety Performance and also act as one of the show's Executive Producers.[19][20] Under his direction, the 2015 Royal Variety Performance was staged at the Royal Albert Hall in London and was held in the presence of Prince Harry.[21] According to Cooper, it was one of the most successful in terms of funds raised for the Royal Variety Charity.[22]
