Glasgow Homeopathic Hospital

Glasgow Homeopathic Hospital in 2007

Glasgow Homeopathic Hospital was a National Health Service hospital in Glasgow specialising in homeopathy. It was later renamed as the Centre for Integrative Care on the Gartnavel Hospital campus,[1] and is part of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

As of November 2015, it continues to list homeopathy as one of the treatments it provides.[2]

As of October 2015, NHS Lanarkshire, NHS Highland and NHS Lothian had ceased to make referrals to the centre.[3]

It has been proposed that the centre may be reassigned to become a new centre for the treatment of chronic pain.[1][3]

History - Originally located in former large domestic residence at 1000 Great Western Road (as was often the case for hospitals at the time. -Similarly, near by Redlands Hospital, Gartnaval Royal, and Erskine Hospital for ex service men)

Plans to build a new Homeopathic Hospital on Julian Avenue (Site now occupied by 'Mormon' church) progressed only as far as architect plans and a drawing of the exterior of the proposed building (A reprint of the drawing can be found in the book 'Along Great Western Road')

The new/current GHH was built entirely without recourse to public funds. (Ie legacies /donation), but became part of, and wholly owned by the NHS as soon as it opened. The official opening was carried out by HRH The Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay. (Scottish title)
