Golela is a town in Kwa-Zulu Natal Province, South Africa, 45km east of Pongola on the border with Swaziland. The Golela border post was recently rebuilt to meet the increasing movement of people and goods between South Africa and Swaziland.
Overview
The town is situated on the southern border with Swaziland, 145 km south-east of Piet Retief. Formerly spelt Gollel, the name is of Swazi origin, said to mean 'place of game'. This was a hunting ground of the Nyawo tribe in former times. The portion of the town across the border, in Swaziland, was renamed Lavumisa.[1]
Transport
It is served by a railway station on the line connecting South Africa and Swaziland.
