Good Night Commander! (Persian: شب بخیر فرمانده) is a picture book written by Ahmad Akbarpour in Persian in 2003.[1] The book is mainly about the Iran-Iraq war, Narges Mohammadi has illustrated it.[2][3] The book focuses on the experiences of a young boy who has called himself the Commander and has lost one of his legs and his mother during the war.[4] It has been translated to English and has published by Ground wood books publication company in 2010.[5] The idea for writing the novel came to Akbarpour because he believed that the war was unintelligible for him and its bad effects on people and specially on children annoyed him.[6]

Narrative

The book is about a young boy who has called himself the Commander and has lost his mother and his leg during the war in the 1980s. Now he is alone in his room and plays with his toys, he recreates his memories of war and tries to revenge his losses. In his games, he has a conflict with an imaginary enemy and soldiers. The boy talks to his mother's photo and says his grief of his father remarriage.[7]

Ahmad Akbarpour is an Iranian novelist and author of short stories and children books. So far he has written several books for children.[8]
