Governor Stakes
The Governor Stakes was an American Thoroughbred horse race run annually on Labor Day at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. The race started out as the Governor Nicholls Stakes for the first 2 years. At one time a Grade 1 race, it was discontinued after the 1975 edition.
The race was open to horses age three and older and was contested on dirt over a distance of 1⅛ miles (9 furlongs).
