Greg McCauley (born January 6, 1982) is a professional Canadian ice hockey player and coach. He was the head coach and director of hockey operations for the Fayetteville FireAntz in the Southern Professional Hockey League in 2013–14.[1]
Career
McCauley was born in Collingwood, Ontario, and raised in Feversham, Ontario. He played in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) for the Mississauga Ice Dogs, Barrie Colts and Sudbury Wolves. After one season at the Ryerson University (Toronto, Ontario), he turned professional signing with the Oklahoma City Blazers in the Central Hockey League (CHL).[2] Greg would go on to play for the Utah Grizzlies (ECHL), the Bloomington PrairieThunder (IHL), and the Dayton Gems (IHL).
Greg took his first professional coaching job in 2009–10 with the Broome County Barons in the Federal Hockey League (FHL). The next season he would head overseas to become a head coach/player for Izmir BB GSK in the Turkish Ice Hockey Federation, IIHF. In 2012–13 he would return to North America and the Utah Grizzlies, the mid-level affiliate of the Calgary Flames, as an assistant coach.[3] On June 8, 2013 he was appointed the head coach of the Fayetteville FireAntz in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL).[4] He would leave team after only 32 games for personal reasons.[5]
