Gus Worland is an Australian television and radio personality. He is best known for his series of reality television programs An Aussie Goes Barmy, An Aussie Goes Bolly and An Aussie Goes Calypso which aired on Fox8.

As of August 2009, he is one of the hosts of the Triple M Sydney breakfast radio show The Grill Team.[1]

In 2014, Worland was the subject of the A&E television show Gus Worland: Marathon Man. Worland trained for the 2014 New York Marathon, which he completed in under 7 hours.


Early life

Gus Worland grew up in Sydney, Australia. He attended Knox Grammar School, where he met lifelong friend Hugh Jackman. During his schooling, Gus played a number of sports and was heavily involved with the extra curricular activities at Knox Grammar School. After graduating from high school, he worked in sales. He moved to England and lived for a time in Nottingham, England. After marrying and having children in England, he returned to Australia and begun his successful media career. He is now famous for his breakfast radio program on the Triple M Sydney station. In 2015 Gus Worland challenged ex opposition labour leader Mark Latham to a boxing match for charity. The fight was cancelled by Mark Latham, although general consensus was that Gus would have lost the bout.

Television

Worland is a sports fanatic and turned love for sport into a reality when he co-created (with friend Hugh Jackman) and starred in Fox8's An Aussie Goes series.

The first series in 2006 was An Aussie Goes Barmy. His mission was to follow the Barmy Army from England to Australia for all 5 cricket test matches.

The next series was An Aussie Goes Bolly. In India, Worland shared his journey as travelled and experienced cricket through Indian spectator eyes.

The third series, brought Worland to The West Indies for An Aussie Goes Calypso.[2]

Advertising

Worland was the face of advertising for Midas Australia. Gus is an ambassador for XXXX Gold and Gus is an ambassador for the charity – Save Our Sons

Radio

Host of MMM's The Grill Team since 2009 with MG (Mark Geyer) and Matty Johns. Working on the radio station he made a life long friend in Stuart MacGill (the Sweet Prince) [3]

Dodgeball

Gus Worland was "selected" to represent Australia in Dodgeball World Championships 2010.[4]

Awards

Worland has won two ASTRA Awards, one for Best Entertainment Show in 2007 for his role as Team Leader in Fox8's The Singing Office and the second in 2008 – when he was awarded Best Sports Show on Pay TV for An Aussie Goes Bolly.[5] Gus was awarded the BEST NEW TALENT at the Australian Radio Awards after his first year on MMM – The Grill Team
