Hangar 18 was an American core hip hop group signed to Definitive Jux Records. The group consists of rappers Alaska and Windnbreeze, and is produced by DJ paWL. The group has gained recognition touring with other artists, including El-P, Aesop Rock, Mos Def, RJD2, and Gym Class Heroes.

During their early years Alaska and Windnbreeze were active members of the Atoms Family, a group of emcees and DJs in New York's hip-hop underground.[1] During their time working with the rest of the family, they made songs like "Prison" on the Euphony album, which personified the unique sound they were to have and the solo success they would become. The group's name is an homage to the Megadeth song Hangar 18. [2] In 2002 they picked up DJ PaWL and on June 15, 2004, Hangar 18 released The Multi-Platinum Debut Album. October 23, 2007, the sequel arrived. The group released Sweep the Leg.[1]

On February 24, 2009, the trio announced their breakup. They said that the inspiration that held them together was no longer there and it wouldn't have been fair to themselves or their fans to continue to make music that they weren't passionate about.

Windnbreeze took a hiatus from music for a few years and then began writing again and collaborated with Alaska and Cryptic One. The 3 of them dropped an album entitle "Sands" in 2014. Windnbreeze has his first solo album coming up in December 2015 entitled G.O. Bliss.

PaWL continues to write and direct commercials.

In February 2015, Alaska released Altkast through Hello L.A. which featured him and appearances from Zilla Rocca, Curly Castro, and Elsphinx over some Outkast beats.[3] The project was mixed by his friend/producer Lang Vo. Lang Vo then took the vocals from the project and placed them over his new original productions. This was sent to Alaska and fueled the start of a new project called "Words Hurt". With Lang Vo on production and Alaska on vocals, they released their first full-length album in April 2016 called "Fuck That Pretty Boy Shit".[4]
