The Hansboro–Cartwright Border Crossing connects the towns of Hansboro, North Dakota and Cartwright, Manitoba on the Canada–US border. Both towns were moved to their present locations to be close to newly constructed railroads. Hansboro was named for Henry C. Hansbrough, a North Dakota legislator.[1] Cartwright was named after politician and businessman Sir Richard Cartwright. While Cartwright's population has remained generally between 300 and 500 for the past century, Hansboro's population has dwindled from a high of 218 in 1920 to 12 in 2010.[2]
The Hansboro border station, which was built in 1963, was replaced in 2011. The Cartright border station was built in 1982.
