Hedgerows Regulations 1997
The Hedgerows Regulations 1997[1] came into effect on 1st June 1997 and is government legislation which falls under the Environment Act 1995. It was created to protect British hedgerows, in particular those aged 30 years or older. Since the legislation came into effect it is a legal offence to remove a hedgerow under the regulations outlined within the document.
The legislation includes sub-categories detailing specific descriptions of offences, replacement of hedgerows, appeals, local planning authority records of hedgerows, injunctions, wildlife and landscape and protected woodland and woody species under the legislation.
