Hockley Woods is a 91.3 biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Hockley in Essex.[1][2] It is also a Local Nature Reserve.[3][4] and it is owned and managed by Rochford District Council.[1]
The site compises Great Bull Wood, Great Hawkwell Wood, Beeches Wood and Parson's Snipe. They are on pre-glacial gravels and clay, with trees including hornbeam, pedunculate oak, sessile oak, birch and hazel. Ground flora include three species of orchid, and there is a stream and area of bog.[1] The protected heath fritillary butterfly is common on the site.[3]
There is a car park off Main Road, and the site has public toilets.[5]
