Honestbee
Honestbee is an online grocery service, launched in Singapore in July 2015.[1] It has also launched in Hong Kong and Taipei.[2] It was founded by Joel Sng, and has backing from technology companies in Asia and the United States.
The company is not the only grocery delivery service in the area.[3] Redmart began four years before Honestbee and has significant backers from the technology area, like Facebook cofounder Eduardo Saverin, Skype cofounder Toivo Annus and a local gaming company, Garena. There is also HappyFresh, an Indonesian startup that launched four months ahead of honestbee.[2]
Honestbee employs part-time shoppers who collect groceries from local stores for each customer’s shopping list and then hand the package to its logistics partners, who usually deliver orders about an hour after they are placed.[4]
In October 2015, Honestbee announced that it raised $15 million for its on-demand grocery delivery service. Led by Formation 8, participants included Pejman Mar Ventures, Gideon Yu, Owen T. Van Natta, and Steve Chen.
