IFFHS World's Best Goalkeeper
The IFFHS World's Best Goalkeeper is a football award given annually since 1987 to the most outstanding goalkeeper of the year as voted by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS).[1] The votes are cast by IFFHS's editorial staff as well as experts from different continents. In 2011, Italy's Gianluigi Buffon was named the best goalkeeper of the world in the last quarter-of-a-century, 1987 to 2011.[2][3][4][5]
List of winners
The award is awarded every January. The winning goalkeeper is awarded a gold trophy at the World Football Gala. Spain's Iker Casillas has won this award five times (in a row). Italy's Gianluigi Buffon was awarded four times. Below is a list of the previous winners since the first award in 1987.[1] Bayern Munich, with a total of seven, is the team with the most wins.
