Indiana Public Retirement System (INPRS) is a U.S.-based pension fund responsible for the pension assets for public employees in the state of Indiana. INPRS is among the largest 100 pension funds in the United States with $30.2 billion of assets under management as of June 30, 2014. The fund administers and manages several pension funds in the State of Indiana including the Indiana State Teachers' Retirement Fund and the Indiana Public Employees’ Retirement Fund. Each of the current funds will remain separate and administered by the nine-member board of trustees of INPRS.
INPRS covers over 480,000 members including 222,497 active employees and 133,128 retirees. Its various funds pays out approximately $2.2 billion in annual benefits and are funded from $2.1 billion of annual employer and employee contributions as well as income from its investment portfolio which totaled $30.2 billion of assets under management as of June 30, 2014. Overall INPRS is approximately 85 percent (actuarial value as of 6/30/14) excluding a pay-go plan relating to the Indian Teachers Retirement Fund.
INPRS also oversees three non-retirement funds including: the Pension Relief Fund, Public Safety Officers’ Special Death Benefit Fund and the State Employees’ Death Benefit Fund.
