Ireland's Got Talent

Ireland's Got Talent is an upcoming Irish talent show confirmed by Simon Cowell's Syco Productions, expected to air in 2016 or 2017. Although RTÉ have already recommissioned rival programme The Voice of Ireland for a fifth series, sources have confirmed that Ireland's Got Talent may too be funded by the national broadcaster, as they declined to comment on whether they were in negotiations. TV3 have also been linked with the production, due to their reputation of airing reality television of a similar nature.

Irish television personality Louis Walsh is the only judge to be confirmed.

Format

The Got Talent format remains relatively similar across all the nations where it has been commissioned. Auditions are held nationwide, generally in the most populated urban regions in front of a live studio audience. In Ireland's case, it has been suggested that locations like The Helix (Dublin), The Cork Opera House (Cork), The Lime Tree Theatre (Limerick) and The Royal Theatre (Castlebar) will be used as audition venues due to their track records with concerts and shows of similar sorts, as well as their dispersion across Ireland.

Similarly, unlike programmes such as The Voice of Ireland, the Got Talent franchise travels across the country when shooting The Live Shows.

Production

Currently, Louis Walsh is the only star to be confirmed by Simon Cowell as a judge.[1] However, it is believed that if RTÉ or TV3 commission the production they will mirror Britain's Got Talent and use a comedian for comic relief. It has been suggested that TV3's stand up host Jason Byrne is linked to the production. Similarly, RTÉ have recently contracted Ireland's Favourite Comedian Tommy Tiernan to RTÉ 2FM.[2]

The presenter(s) have not been confirmed. Names suggested to front the show include Nicky Byrne, Jenny Greene, Laura Whitmore and Darren Kennedy.

International television icon Simon Cowell has also been linked with a position on the judging panel, as a 'Special Guest'. An insider stated that he wanted to be involved with Louis Walsh and for Ireland's Got Talent to happen. It has also been confirmed that Cowell will even be speaking Irish in its television promo.[3]

TV3 turned down the show in spring 2016.[4]
