Jack David Marriott (born 9 September 1994) is an English professional footballer who plays as a striker for League Two club Luton Town.

He started his career at Ipswich Town, making his debut at the end of the 2012–13 season. Marriott signed on a two-month loan for Woking of the Conference Premier in November 2013, scoring nine goals in nine games. He returned to Woking on loan in January 2014 after a brief stint at League One club Gillingham.

He went on to sign for Carlisle United on a one-month loan at the start of the 2014–15 season. He returned to Woking on loan for a third spell in September 2014, playing in 24 games, before ending the 2014–15 campaign at Colchester United of League One. Upon his return to Ipswich, Marriott's contract was not renewed and he joined League Two club Luton Town in May 2015.

Club career

Ipswich Town

Marriott joined the Ipswich Town youth set up as a 15-year-old.[3] In April 2011, Ipswich confirmed that Marriott had joined the club's under-18 side on a two-year scholarship.[4] At the time recruitment officer Malcolm Moore said, "He's a striker, tough, quick, aggressive and has a horrible knack of scoring goals."[4] Impressive performances for the under-18s over his two-year scholarship led to Marriott signing a one-year professional contract at Portman Road in February 2013.[5] Marriott was included in the squad for the last two games of the 2012–13 league campaign and made his professional debut away to Burnley on 4 May 2013.[6]

Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy confirmed Marriott had signed a new contract with the club in December 2013.[7]

Loan spells

In November 2013, Marriott joined Conference Premier club Woking on a one-month loan deal.[8] Marriott made his Woking debut in a 3–0 home win over Dartford on 12 November 2013, scoring his first professional goal as he picked up the man-of-the-match award.[9] Marriott scored twice in his next game in a 3–2 comeback win over Hyde.[10] He scored his fourth goal in as many games as he netted in the 3–0 win over Hereford United in the FA Trophy.[11] Marriott scored the first hat-trick of his professional career in the following match; a 4–3 win over Halifax Town.[12] On 5 December 2013 it was confirmed Marriott had extended his loan at Woking by a further month but with the option of a recall.[13]

On 2 January 2014, Marriott joined League One club Gillingham on loan.[14] He played in only one match before being recalled back to Ipswich four weeks later.[15] He subsequently returned to Woking on loan and scored four goals in 15 league appearances.[13][16]

Marriott joined League Two club Carlisle United on a one-month loan on 18 August 2014.[17] He made five appearances for the club before returning to Ipswich.[18]

Marriott then joined Woking on loan for a third spell on 25 September 2014,[19] scoring on his return two days later in a 3–2 defeat to Kidderminster Harriers.[20] Marriott was recalled from Woking by Ipswich on 19 January 2015.[21]

On 20 January 2015, Marriott joined League One club Colchester United on loan until the end of the 2014–15 season.[22] He played in five games, all as a substitute, scoring once.[23]

Marriott's Ipswich contract was not renewed and he was subsequently released at the end of the season.[24]

Luton Town

On 20 May 2015, Marriott joined League Two club Luton Town on a one-year contract.[3][25] He made his debut for the club as a 76th-minute substitute for Danny Green in a 1–1 draw with Accrington Stanley on 8 August 2015.[26] Three days later, he scored his first Luton goals; a brace in a 3–1 upset win over Championship club Bristol City in the first round of the League Cup.[27] This performance resulted in Marriott being named in the League Cup team of the round.[28] He signed a two-year contract extension with the club on 25 August 2015, with further options to extend his contract until 2019.[29] During Luton's 2–1 home win over Leyton Orient in the first round of the Football League Trophy,[30] Marriott was shown a red card for making a gesture to the Leyton Orient fans.[31] Luton manager John Still, who was adamant he didn't deserve the red card said: "He shouldn't have done it but the punishment didn't fit the crime."[31] Marriott scored another brace in a 2–0 home win over AFC Wimbledon on 26 September 2015, after coming on as 61st-minute substitute for Josh McQuoid.[32] One week later, after replacing the injured Craig Mackail-Smith in the 28th-minute, he scored a further brace in a 4–1 away win over Hartlepool United.[33] Marriott made a starting appearance in a 1–1 draw with Leyton Orient on 20 October 2015, scoring his seventh goal of the season during the game.[34] One month later, he opened the scoring in the 4th-minute during a 4–3 home defeat to Carlisle United, converting a pass from Olly Lee.[35] Following a goal drought, Marriott scored a consolation goal, his ninth of the season in a 4–1 away defeat to AFC Wimbledon on 13 February 2016.[36] Two weeks later, he scored a backheel goal, his 10th of the season, assisted by a pass from Stephen O'Donnell in a 3–2 away win over York City.[37][38] Marriott scored his 11th goal of the season three days later, converting a pass from Paddy McCourt in a 1–0 home win over Morecambe.[39] On 5 March 2016, he scored his fourth goal in five games and his 12th goal of the season in a 1–0 away win over Leyton Orient.[40] Marriott's 13th goal of the season came two weeks later in a 1–0 away win over Plymouth Argyle, with Paddy McCourt providing an assist once more.[41] After coming on as a 68th-minute substitute for Josh McQuoid, Marriott scored his 14th goal of the season, converting a cross from Olly Lee with a header in a 1–1 draw with Newport County on 23 April 2016.[42] On 1 May 2016, Marriott was named Luton Town Player of the Season, voted for by the club's supporters, and joint winner of the Luton Town Young Player of the Season award along with Cameron McGeehan, chosen by the Luton Town Management Team.[43] A fourth brace in a 4–1 home win over Exeter City on 7 May 2016 meant Marriott ended the season with 16 goals from 44 appearances in all competitions.[44][45]
