Jahleel Addae (born January 24, 1990) is an American football safety for the San Diego Chargers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for Central Michigan University where he was a captain and three-time All Mid-American Conference player. He was signed by the Chargers as an undrafted free agent in 2013.[1]

College career

Addae played for the Central Michigan Chippewas and actually came to the school as a running back. After the conversion to defensive back, Addae was named 3rd team All-MAC in 2010, 1st team in 2011, and 2nd team in 2012. Addae finished his career at CMU with 302 tackles, 8 interceptions, and 3 forced fumbles.

Professional career

In 2013, Addae went undrafted and was eventually picked up by the San Diego Chargers. He impressed the Chargers coaching staff enough to make the 53-man roster. Addae became the team's nickel and dime safety as he became more involved due to injuries suffered by safety Brandon Taylor. Addae played all 16 games, making 2 starts, managing to collect 38 tackles, 1 sack, and a pass deflection.

During the 2014 offseason, Addae competed for the starting strong safety position. Then during the Chargers preseason, Addae suffered a hamstring injury. He returned during the regular season against the Jaguars. Against the Patriots, Addae forced a fumble in which it was recovered by the Charger Darrell Stuckey and taken for a touchdown. For the 2014 season, Jahleel Addae collected 48 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, and 1 sack.

In 2015, again Addae competed for the starting spot against Jimmy Wilson, which last season was Marcus Gilchrist job. He won the spot after being the number 2 strong safety for San Diego and showing big improvements. Addae started 13 games for the Chargers during the 2015 season, amounting 65 tackles, a sack, and 5 passes defended. The Chargers placed a second-round tender on Addae in 2016.[2]
