Jasmine Joyce (born 9 October 1995) is a Welsh rugby union player.[1] Joyce, who plays at wing, has been capped at national level as part of the Wales women's national rugby sevens team and in 2016 she was named as part of the Great Britain sevens team to play at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.

Personal history

Joyce was born in St Davids in Wales in 1995.[1] She was educated at Ysgol Dewi Sant before matriculating to Cardiff Metropolitan University.[2][3]

Rugby career

Joyce began playing rugby as a child, joining the mini-section of St. Davids RFC.[2] At the age of 12, with inter-gender rugby unavailable, she switched to Haverfordwest RFC to join the ladies youth team.[2] At the age of 15 she was talent spotted by scouts for the Scarlets.[4] She joined the Scarlets Ladies under-18 programmme, and in her first match she made a brief substitution appearance as a forward.[4] After impressing with her speed in training she was placed on the wing, and scored three tries on her full debut against the Dragons.[4] She quickly became an integral part of the under 18s team and soon progressed to the senior squad.[4]

Joyce was selected as part of the Wales A Squad for the UK school games in 2013. From there she was called into the Welsh squad to train for the extended Six Nations Wales squad.[5] In 2015, whilst studying at Cardiff, Joyce was selected to play for the Wales women's national rugby sevens team for the Dubai Sevens tournament.[5] From that point she was a regular to the Women's Sevens team and played for Wales at the 2015 European Championships that was held over two legs in Russia and France.[2]

In 2016 she was selected for the Great Britain rugby sevens team at the 2016 Summer Olympics. She is the only player from Wales in the squad, with the other eleven players all coming from the England national team.[6]
