Jason Constant Klush (born September 4, 1976) is the current mayor of Pittston City, Pennsylvania. He is the youngest mayor in the city's history (sworn in at 33).[1][2]
Pittston City mayoral election, 2009
Jason Klush ran for mayor of Pittston City in the spring of 2009. His opponents were Mayor Joe Keating and Luddy Fleming of Pittston. Mayor Keating was seeking reelection for another 4-year term. Campaigning began in April 2009 with a kick-off rally for Klush. More rallies were held in Pittston for both the young Jason Klush and the experienced Joseph Keating.
After political attacks from Mayor Joe Keating, Luddy Fleming was forced to drop out of the race on May 16. He threw his support behind Jason Klush for the May 19 primary. On election day, Klush defeated sitting Mayor Joe Keating by a margin of 16%.
A day after losing the Democratic primary, Joseph Keating submitted a letter to the city council announcing his resignation. The council voted to appoint Councilwoman Donna McFadden-Connors as acting mayor. Michael Lombardo, who won the Democratic nomination for a city council seat, replaced Connors on council. Democrat Jason Klush ran unopposed in the November 2009 general election.[3]
Mayor of Pittston City
Jason Klush assumed office on Monday night, January 4, 2010.[4] In the same month, he appointed Robert Powers as the new chief of police.[5]
Re-election campaign, 2013
Incumbent Mayor Jason Klush defeated Eugene M. Rooney Jr. in the May 2013 Democratic primary. Klush went on to win the November general election handily.[6][7]
