Jennifer Christine Fichter (born 1984) is a former English teacher in Polk County, Florida, United States. Fichter was arrested by Lakeland Police on April 15, 2014 and charged with numerous counts of Sexual Battery under Florida Statute 794.05 Unlawful sexual activity with certain minors.— (1) A person 24 years of age or older who engages in sexual activity with a person 16 or 17 years of age commits a felony of the second degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084. As used in this section, “sexual activity” means oral, anal, or vaginal penetration by, or union with, the sexual organ of another.[1][2][3]

Biography

Jennifer Fichter graduated from Paxon High School, Jacksonville, Florida in June 2003 and attended the University of Florida from August 2003 to December 2006 earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree majoring in English. She held instructional teaching positions at Robinswood Middle School, Orange County, Florida from August 13, 2007 to December 19, 2008 when she resigned pending the outcome an investigation for alleged offenses of Inappropriate behavior - Texting 8th Grader.[4]

Fichter was hired as an English teacher at Kathleen High School on Aug. 29, 2011, and was paid $40,530 US dollars per year. The Central Florida Aerospace Academy is a career academy of Kathleen High and holds classes at Lakeland Linder Airport. Fichter was unanimously fired by the Polk County School Board on April 22, 2014 after her arrest for a sexual relationship with three of her male students over 37 times between August 2012 and April 2014.

Trial

As of June 7, 2014 Fichter was being held in the Polk County Jail with a bond set at $520,000 US dollars.[5]

Sentencing

On July 2, 2015, Fichter was sentenced to 22 years imprisonment.[6] A Polk County judge called her a predator during sentencing.[7] The sentencing by Judge Glenn T. Shelby, was immediately controversial, with the long sentence being especially reviled in Europe. [8]
