Jennifer Lefort

Jennifer Lefort is an artist based in Gatineau (Qc) Canada.

Education

Jennifer Lefort holds an Honours BFA from Concordia University in Montreal and an MFA from York University in Toronto which she received 2006. She is the recipient of the prestigious Joseph Plaskett Foundation Award, an advancement/travel grant she used to further her research in Berlin, Germany. Some acquisitions of Lefort's work include the Musée National du Québec, Aldo Group, Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abbott, Hydro-Quebec and more.

Work

Jennifer Lefort's painting explores approaches to abstraction in terms of the manipulation of colour, narrative and sensation.[1] The artist decomposes objects found in everyday life to exploit their material qualities and paint them to recompose them otherwise.[2]

The artist won many awards for her work of which include the Royal Bank of Canada Painting Award (Semi-finalist, 2007); Joseph Plaskett Foundation Award (2005), the Graduate Development Fund (2005), the Ontario Graduate Scholarship Award (2005), the York University Entrance Scholarship (2004), the Henry Mills Prize (2002), the Heinz Jordan Painting Prize (2001).
