Joan Takayama-Ogawa

Joan Takayama-Ogawa is an artist who works in the area of ceramics. She received her Bachelor of Arts at UCLA in Geography and East Asian Studies, Master of Arts in Education at the Stanford Graduate School of Education, and ceramic education at Otis College of Art and Design, in Los Angeles, California.

Her work is in the permanent collections of the Renwick Gallery, Smithsonian Institution,World Ceramic Exposition Foundation, Icheon, South Korea, Princessehof Leewarden Nationaal Keramiek Museum, Leeuwarden, Netherlands Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Stanford University Iris & B. Gerald Cantor Center for Visual Arts, Long Beach Museum of Art, Oakland Museum of California, American Museum of Ceramic Art, Racine Art Museum, Hallmark Collection, and Celestial Seasoning Tea Company. Her work appears in over 30 ceramic books.

She is Professor of Ceramics and Product Design and at Otis College of Art and Design, Los Angeles, CA. In 2010, she was appointed Otis Ceramic Coordinator with the charge of bringing clay back to Otis with a focus on 3-D printing and clay. For 5 years, she served as a Design Commissioner for the City of Pasadena.
