Joe Mande (born March 16, 1983) is an American stand-up comedian and writer based in Los Angeles.

Career

Mande is an alumnus of Emerson College in Boston,[1] where he formed a sketch comedy group with Harris Wittels and Armen Weitzman.

Mande has appeared on such TV shows as Comedy Central's The Half Hour, VH1's Best Week Ever and Conan.[2] He is also the author of the book Look At This Fucking Hipster.

In 2009, Time Out New York named Mande the city's “Best New Comedian.”[3]

Mande was a writer for the final three seasons of the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation, also appearing in seven episodes as Pawnee resident Morris Lerpiss.[4] He has also written for the Comedy Central sketch series Kroll Show, and the Adult Swim series Delocated.

On July 14, 2014, it was announced that Mande had posted a Kickstarter for "The Million Dollar Podcast", saying that if he raised one million dollars he would interview "comedians and musicians and shit like that." [5] He was briefly held up by Kickstarter, who initially rejected the project, saying that it didn't "create something to share with others."[6] After reading Mande's appeal, the Kickstarter was finally allowed to begin.[7] It ran from July 16 - August 15, 2014, and if you donate $1,000 Mande will "mention your name on the podcast or something." [8]

Bitchface

Mande released his first comedy album, Bitchface on March 14, 2014. The album was done in the style of a mixtape with appearances by his friends Fabolous, Roy Hibbert, Jenny Slate, Nick Kroll, Aziz Ansari, and voicemail messages from The RZA and Amy Poehler.[9]

Activity on Twitter

Joe Mande is a prolific user of Twitter, and has earned recognition as an "internet troll."[10] In 2011, Mande rubbed NBA player Gilbert Arenas the wrong way when the comedian made several tweets referencing tweets Arenas had made about his poor treatment of women and the many ridiculous Twitter profile photos Arenas had used. He subsequently re-tweeted Arenas' malformed response tweets.[11]

Personal life

Mande was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico and grew up in Saint Paul, Minnesota, attending Saint Paul Central High School.[12] He is Jewish. He resides in Los Angeles with his wife Kylie.[13]
