John Carr (cricketer)
John Donald Carr (born 15 June 1963) is an English cricket executive.
John Carr was born in St John's Wood in a house backing onto Lord's. His father D.B. Carr was a first-class cricketer who captained Derbyshire CCC and England, before moving into cricket administration.
He was educated at Repton and Oxford. He played first-class cricket for Oxford and Middlesex (three matches) as a right-handed batsman and off-break bowler.[1]
Carr scored 9,846 runs for Middlesex between 1983 and 1996, at an average of 39.22, with 20 centuries and a highest score of 261 not out. In 1989 when dropped for a month after a loss of form, he announced his retirement to go into banking. In 1992 he made a successful comeback, and in the final weeks of the 1994 season he reached his zenith with successive scores of 78*, 171*, 136, 106*, 40*, 62* and 261* to end with 1,543 runs @ 90.76, topping Brian Lara's 2,066 @ 89.82 (including the highest individual innings score in first class cricket, 501*).
Carr succeeded John Emburey as vice-captain in 1996. He bowled very slow right arm mixing off breaks and seam. He joined the Test and County Cricket Board, upon his retirement. He is now the Director of Operations for the England and Wales Cricket Board.
