John Merritt is a senior Australian public servant. He is currently Chief Executive Officer of VicRoads, having joined the organisation in May 2014.
Life and career
Merritt was born in 1958 or 1959, marrying Maxine Morand in 1988 and honeymooning in Mount Hotham, Victoria.[2]
Merritt was Executive Director of Health and Safety at WorkSafe Victoria from 2001 to 2009.[3][4]
Merritt was appointed Chief Executive of the Victorian Environment Protection Authority in 2010. Then candidate for the Victorian electorate of Mount Waverly, Michael Gidley, called for Merritt to be sacked from his new appointment, saying that it would be impossible for Merritt to give the government independent advice due to his relationship with then Brumby Ministry member and Member for Mount Waverly Maxine Morand,[5]
In April 2014, Merritt's appointment as the next Chief Executive Officer of VicRoads was announced.[6][7] In the role, he is responsible for significant road projects and safety initiatives.[8]
